After Mojang’s negotiations with LEGO broke down in 2012, development on the “Minecraft” spin-off game “Brickcraft” was terminated. Now, a group of dedicated players have discovered a playable prototype version of this collaboration game. The game was intended to transform “Minecraft” into a fantasy world built from LEGO bricks. Although the project was ultimately scrapped, a runnable version has finally emerged.

In the early 2010s, developer Mojang was in talks with LEGO about co-developing a game, but negotiations ended due to disagreements over brand restrictions proposed by the toy company. For years, players have searched for this forgotten spin-off game. Then, in June 2025, fans patiently waiting for a “Minecraft” and LEGO collaboration finally made an exciting discovery.
The fan community website Omniarchive announced the discovery of a playable version of the legendary “Brickcraft.” The platform is dedicated to organizing and preserving historical “Minecraft” materials. Its operations team publicly showcased a June 2012 development version of “Brickcraft” for the first time. It is speculated that this version dates from just one month before the project’s cancellation and is likely one of the final test builds before development ceased. Despite performance issues, this version supports multiplayer mode, and enthusiasts have already developed optimization mods to enhance the experience.

Although “Brickcraft” was stillborn, the physical LEGO sets (containing various minifigures and accessories) based on the “Minecraft” collaboration have been a huge success. However, players have always lamented the absence of an official collaborative game. For this reason, the demo version discovered by Omniarchive has inevitably caused a sensation within both communities.
